imageUniversal Media Server est un fork (une modification) du projet PS3 Media Server, et permet donc de lire plein de formats vidéo et audio sur votre PS3, en utilisant votre PC/MAC comme serveur de diffusion (stream).
Ainsi, vous ne serez plus limité au petit nombre de formats reconnus par la PS3.

Universal Media Server est un serveur multimédia UPnP DLNA-Compliant.
C'est basé sur PS3 Media Server par shagrath. C'est en fait une évolution du "SubJunk build" de PS3MS.
UMS a été démarré par SubJunk, un développeur officiel de PS3MS, pour garantir une stabilité plus importante et une compatibilité de format.
Comme c'est écrit en Java, UMS supporte les principaux OS comme Windows, Linux et Mac OS X.
Le programme streame ou transcode plein de différents formats avec peu ou pas de configuration.
Il utilise MEncoder, FFmpeg, tsMuxeR et AviSynth, qui, combinés, permettent de supporter un grand panel de formats multimédia.
