ImageLa Rétro-ingénierie ou ingénierie inversée (Reverse engineering en Anglais) du Payload du dongle PS3 PSJailbreak a été effectuée et nous avons maintenant le code source assembleur qui a permis d'en comprendre un peu plus sur le fonctionnement du dongle.

Voici à peu près comment fonctionne le Payload:
  • Il prend le contrôle à exploit_entry, ce qui copie le reste du payload à l'adresse fixée 0x8000000000700000 et saute à exploit_main.
  • exploit_main copie une partie résidente du payload vers un autre endroit, créé un périphérique USB virtuel appelé "mod" avec 3 fonctions, accroche (hook) quelques fonctions VSH via une entrée TOC et fait quelques patchs permanents de la mémoire. Quand le travail est fait, il écrase son propre emplacement mémoire par des zéros.
  • La partie du résident a 3 fonctions: gérer le périphérique USB virtuel, quelques patchs à la volée et accroche tous les accès au disque de jeu à partir du VSH.
    • Le périphérique virtuel USB est nécessaire pour être sur que le périphérique PSJailbreak est inséré. Une fois que le périphérique correct est inséré (celui avec le AAAAC0DE), le driver du périphérique initialise la variable INITIALIZED ) 1 (voir kmod_func1 - probablement "identifier périphérique", et kmod_func2 - "initialiser périphérique"). Si quelqu'un retire le périphérique, la fonction kmod_func3_call_panic "term device" est appelée, ce qui cause un kernel panic. Tous les périphériques USB virtuels peuvent être totalement retirés puisque c'est juste une protection du PSJailbreak original.
    • La partie de code de patch à la volée est probablement appelée dans le remappage de la page de mémoire virtuelle et fais des patchs additionnels. Il identifie si la page à besoin de patchs en calculant son hash (la signature) et la comparant à la table d'entrées. On des patchs active le menu/les paramètres développeur appelé "category_game_tool2.xml#root" ce qui active probablement le support des PKG et d'autres trucs de développeurs.
    • Les accroches (hooks) du VSH sont fait pour rediriger toutes les requêtes de fichiers BDVD (ou probablement toutes les requêtes d'ouvertures) du VSH vers le backup sur disque dur. Le launcher sauvegarde le dossier de base du jeu démarré puis tous les noms de fichiers sont préfixés de celui-ci. C'est comme ça que la fonctionnalité de backup fonctionne. Le LV1 à toujours besoin de l'autorisation du BDVD pour lancer le jeu, c'est pour ça qu'un jeu original doit être inséré.
  • Ajoute un appel système (Syscal 36) qui sera appelé par le Backup Loader pour activer le périphérique virtuel Bluray avec le bon backup.
  • Patch la valeur de retour de l'hypercall 99 pour pouvoir lancer des applications non signées.
